HAPPY ANNIVERSARY

Today is the 41st Wedding Anniversary of my parents. Roger and Margaret. For fear of 'verbal castration' by mom, I won't post any pics!

So what has happened since January 14th 1967..?, a brief capping of recent, and personal history...

3 boys welcomed to the world, 5 grandchildren followed in later years, 5 UK homes, worldwide travel (mostly for dad, but mom saw the light and began to travel in the late 80's). We have had the Falklands war, Bosnia conflicts, 2 wars in Iraq, the UK's first lady Prime Minister, Elvis dies, Concorde, put a man on the moon, landed robots on Mars, pulled down the Iron Curtain, 9/11 attacks in America, fall of communism and the cold war, Band Aid (3 times), Live Aid (twice), strikes, the winter of discontent, the internet, cell phones, video tapes-video discs-DVD-BluRay DVD, compact music cassettes-cd-mini discs-MP3 players (and downloads!), global warming(?), Space Shuttle launches, HIV / AIDS, partial cures for some cancers, ebola, bird flu, CJD, not to forget Aston Villa FC won the League Cup (4 times) - English League Champions - Champions of Europe - founder members of the Premier League, John Lennon assassinated, channel tunnel opens, the Seven Oaks tornado, Tsunami, an Englishwoman becomes the World's best sailor, the ECU (fails) then the Euro, yuppies, 3 million 'on the dole', the Beatles split, the Millenium, and a bright, new future...
We have also said goodbye to too many close family members and friends.

On this day:
1914 Henry Ford's first manufacturing plant begins operating
1954 Joe DiMaggio (baseball player) marries Marilyn Monroe
1967 Roger Buttery and Margaret Allinson married at St Mary's Church, Palfrey, Walsall.
1969 Sir Matt Busby retires from Manchester United
1975 Lesley Whittle was kidnapped. A truly heinous crime for the Midlands.
2002 The UK is declared foot and mouth free. Little did we know.

Tom Jones was top of the singles charts with "The Green, Green Grass of Home"
Other 'notable' chart toppers through the years on this day :

1968 The Beatles "Hello, Goodbye"
1970 Rolf Harris "Two Little Boys" - Roger used to sing this when it was bedtime, with some revised lyrics!!
1974 Slade "Merry Christmas Everybody" - local boy does good. An aunt of mine went to school with Noddy Holder.
1976 & 1992 Queen "Bohemian Rhapsody"
2005 Elvis "Jailhouse Rock" - he went on to break the most UK number one singles

Julie Andrews' "The Sound of Music" topped the album chart

Films of the year included :
You Only Live Twice - Sean Connery mom's favourite!
Point Blank - Lee Marvin
To Sir, With Love - Sidney Poitier
Bonnie and Clyde - Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway

So, to Mom and Dad, Happy Anniversary and here's to the next 40 (?) years...

Love from
